6 Amazing Gluten-Free Desserts that Kids Will Eat!

The number of children being diagnosed with a gluten allergy is increasing and the severity can be life-threatening for some. It’s better to be safe than sorry and for those that want to make homemade treats, a number of tasty dessert options are available that kids will eat and even ask for seconds.

Brownies

Avoiding gluten doesn’t mean giving up the rich taste of brownies. The chocolaty treats are perfect for little hands and eating on the go. The most common flour for use in gluten-free brownies is almond flour, but be sure that those that partake of the chewy sweets don’t have a nut allergy.

Cookies

Gluten-free cookies don’t need hours to bake or an extensive number of ingredients to make. Healthy three-ingredient cookies are a welcome treat that can easily be made with gluten-free cake mix, eggs and extra virgin olive oil. An added benefit is that gluten-free cake mixes are offered in multiple flavors.

Cake Pops

Few desserts gain a child’s attention like cake pops. Just bake a gluten-free cake from a mix, crumble the cake when it’s done and mix the pieces with any flavor frosting. Form the cake balls to any desired size, add the stick and decorate with a choice of chocolate drizzle, sprinkles and/or frosting.

Banana Pops

Extremely easy to make, banana pops are a healthy treat that kids will have fun making and eating. They can be dipped in chocolate and decorated with coconut, nuts, sprinkles or any desired embellishment. The nutritious snack can be made ahead of time and frozen or let kids decorate their own as part of party festivities.

Doughnut Holes

Doughnut holes are easy to make and can be served at a party, as a snack or a breakfast treat. They’re light, fluffy, and fit a child’s small hands. The balls can be formed by hand or a cutter can be used. An added advantage is that they can also be fashioned into sticks for dunking milk or coffee.

Red Velvet Pie Cookies

These little mini pies combine the best of a cake and a cookie and begin with mini red velvet cakes that can easily be made at home. Take one of the mini cakes, slather on some cream cheese frosting, and top with another cake. The entire dessert can be sprinkled with powdered sugar for a more festive appearance.

Gluten Free Indulgence

Delicious, gluten-free desserts don’t require any more time or effort than traditional cakes or cookies with the gluten-free mixes available in the baking aisle of today’s supermarkets. They ensure anyone can have a safe and gluten-free treat to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Great US Ski Resorts for Families

Taking a ski trip with the family is a great way to reconnect in the great outdoors, as well as take in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.  A great ski resort will offer everything you need for every member of your family to have the most awesome vacation ever.  From toddler ski school through to black run and moguls, skiers of all ages and abilities will have enough going on to keep you all entertained all week long.

There are many, many ski resorts running the length and breadth of the country.  But, as a company that specializes in bringing the fun whatever the weather, here are four of the finest ski resorts in the country:

Keystone, Colorado

Often found sitting proudly at the top of all the ‘Best Family Ski Resort’ lists, Keystone has really thought about what makes taking the kids on a ski trip difficult and pretty much solved it. For example, trying to get the kids and all their gear from your room to the slopes, whilst carrying all your own stuff as well, can be a real slog. At Keystone, they’ve aced this by having loads of free ‘gear buggies’ everywhere. They’re mainly stashed near the (free!) car park. You just dump your gear, the kids’ gear and possibly the kids themselves into the buggy and pull it along behind you until you get to where you’re going. These problem-solving little vehicles are all over the park, so you don’t need to keep an eye on yours, just grab another one when you’re done later on.

The skiing is absolutely superb throughout the region and you and yours can enjoy gracing the slopes of Dercum Mountain, North Peak, the Outback and five Bowls offering skiing to suit all levels.

Beaver Creek, Colorado

Beaver Creek has an innovative way of keeping the kids warm as they master the nursery slopes. The Buckaroo Express, a dedicated gondola for the little ones, keeps them warm as they build up their skill levels and get to grips with the basics. Oh, and they give out free chocolate chip cookies at the end of the day to everyone, kids and grown-ups alike!

The many varied runs and beautiful Bowls offer ample opportunity for you and your little ones to improve their skills while enjoying some of the most beautiful winter scenery in the world.

Park City, Utah

Among the many benefits of Park City’s resort is its proximity to Salt Lake City’s airport. It’s just a short 35-minute drive from the terminal to resort, meaning your little cherubs won’t drive you crazy on that usually lingering last leg of the trip. It also means, if you have an evening flight, you can squeeze one last run in on the last day of your vacation.

They also happen to have an excellent ski school at Park City, with virtually no lines to wait in, as you check in on the snow and go straight from room to powder, which ought to satisfy the younger members of your troop.

Telluride, Colorado

Ask any skiing parent and they’ll tell you one of the hardest things about a ski vacation is getting the kids away from the breakfast table and out onto the snow. At Telluride, nearly all of the runs end up in the resort of the town, making it easy to get lodging with a ski-in, ski-out set-up. Your little adventurers can enjoy that very last pancake before stepping (or skiing) right out onto the powder!

There are also lots of great walks and a fascinating town to visit, all connected by gondola, making Telluride a beautiful and awesome family ski center.

Exercise and Get Fit as A Family

When it comes to keeping fit, there are tons of ways to get the whole family involved. Sure, you guys could all go to the gym together, or run around the park, but why not or go all out and try something different like adding some inflatable fun to the proceedings instead.

From bounce houses for the little ones to all-out action for the adults, here at South Florida Bounce, we have tons of inflatables that can make working out with the family more fun than ever before.

Compete together with our inflatable football

Why not get all the family into some healthy pursuits with an inflatable foosball set-up? This is a giant inflatable arena where you guys are the players. Bounce about and try and score points against the kids while having the time of your life. It’s a great way to work most of the major muscles groups as well as being an excellent cardio workout.  The very best thing about our inflatable football – you will be having so much fun, you won’t even feel like you are working out at the same time.

Workout with our Wipeout

Have you ever watched that TV show where contestants try to jump across a line of giant, inflatable red balls? It sure looks fun, right? Well, now you and yours can have a go yourselves without the trouble of getting soaking wet or having a nation of viewers laughing at your failure! With the inflatable Wipeout set-up, you can attempt the near-impossible in the comfort of your own backyard. The whole thing is padded and surrounded with air-filled mats, so the only thing you’ll damage is your pride as your 7-year old kid hops across with ease, whilst you crash and burn like a clumsy bear on roller skates.

Soccerdarts is an actual thing

Are you any good at darts? Or soccer? Then how about trying out our unique Soccerdarts inflatable? Soccerdarts is a great way to keep fit and have a blast at the same time. A giant inflatable dartboard is your target as you take turns to pelt soccer balls that stick to the board. The best score wins, and everyone gets a great workout for the legs. Soccer and darts perfection, all rolled into one hilariously good fun inflatable.

Bungee up together

If you’ve ever wanted to show off your trampoline skills but were too worried about cartwheeling through the air into the neighbor’s pool, try a bungee trampoline experience instead. Players strap into a special harness that keeps them in place and allows them to show off their best ninja-style poses without gravity getting in the way too much. It’s safe, fun and, best of all, a really good workout that you and your family will never get bored of getting involved with.

How to Create A Great Party Playlist

Throwing the perfect party is not just about the venue you choose and the food you serve, it is also about creating the perfect playlist to have your guests dancing the night away.

Not sure how to do it?  Follow our advice on how to create a great party playlist.

Tailor your list to suit the occasion

If you are holding a family friendly event, chances are you can forego the banging EDM music and opt for something lower key instead.   Think about the atmosphere you are trying to create before you start thinking about the musical accompaniment and work from there.   A laid back, afternoons social for example is the perfect place for bringing out some of your favorite light jazz and old-school soul tunes, that will help to create a relaxing, friendly atmosphere where people can talk.

If you are planning on partying later into the small hours, add plenty of well-known party anthems at the start of the evening, to help get your guests in the mood.  As the evening goes on, increased the BPM to keep them dancing.  If it’s a seasonal affair, be sure to throw some Christmas tunes in to help everyone get into the spirit of things.

Mix it up

As the nominated DJ for your event, remember that variety is the spice of life. Throw in a variety of slow and fast songs, pop classics, country favorites and other musical styles to keep people interested.  Mixing current hits with old school favorites is also a great way to keep guests of all ages entertained throughout the evening.  You should also space things out evenly, so that you don’t get stuck on one style of music for too long at a time, and always throw in some crowd-pleasers. like Whitney, Britney, Madonna and Beyoncé to really get the party started.

Your Party, Your Playlist

Of course, you want to wow your guests with lots of lovely crowd pleasers, but never be afraid to throw a few of your favorites into the mix too.  Intersperse well known party tunes with some from your own personal playlist to create the perfect party sounds to keep your guests entertained, while still reflecting your own personality.  Don’t go overboard with obscure, one hit wonders though – remember this is a party after all, and not an opportunity for you to educate your guests in your own taste in music.

Review Your Choices Before the Big Day

If you really want to impress with your musical prowess, be sure to listen to your playlist in full at least a couple of times before the event itself.  Listen out loud through your sound system, not your headphones to get a feel for technical anomalies like changes in sound quality.  You should also be prepared to make harsh edits and cut out some songs completely if they don’t fit in with the final cut.  This way, you can create a fine-tuned playlist that will go down a storm.

Enjoy!

When your guests arrive, it’s time to forget about the music and get bust being the best host you can be.  Your carefully created playlist is bound to be a big hit with your guests, so have a drink and join in the fun, and don’t worry about which song comes next, or whether everyone like it.

Easy Fun Halloween Treats for The Kids to Enjoy

Halloween is not just about ghost and ghouls and things that go bump in the night, it is also an awesome time to get creative with the kids.  Whether you are hosting a Halloween party, going out to trick or treat or just dressing up at home, you can make your Halloween celebrations even more exciting by treating your kids to some quality time together this Halloween.

Cook Up A Storm

Kids love cooking and whether you are making spider pizzas or homemade candy, there is plenty to get them involved in at this time of year. Bake your favorite flavor cupcakes and use buttercream or fondant icing to transform them into mummies, pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns. Slash hotdogs to create Halloween hotdog fingers with extra spooky ketchup for a truly gruesome snack or make marshmallow ghouls with googly eyes.  Easy Halloween recipes take minutes to make but can add plenty of extra fear factor for your kids Halloween party or Halloween supper at home.

Have A Scary Movie Night

This time of year is prime for horror films and scary movies. Wherever you live there will be kid-friendly showing at your local movie theatre, in the form of a spooky cartoon or gentle Disney thriller.  If there is nothing suitable for them to watch close by, hold your own Halloween movie night at home, with popcorn dipped in white chocolate for extra ghostly effects. Turn out the lights, add some flashlights to create atmosphere and snuggle down on the sofa to watch your favorite Halloween movie together.

Have a Halloween party

Kids and adults love to dress up and dance the night away at a Halloween party.  Have your friends and neighbors over to join you bobbing for apples, pinning the bow on the skeleton or simply doing the monster mash.  Serve up Halloween themed treats and offer a prize for the best-dressed party-goer.  However, you celebrate, Halloween parties are fun for everyone. The very best way to make your Halloween party truly memorable is to hire some inflatables for the kids to enjoy.  From bounce houses to inflatable assault courses and everything in between, your little monsters will love bouncing the night away with their friends, and South Florida Bounce has a huge variety of inflatables to choose from.

Carve A Pumpkin

Making a jack-o-lantern is part and parcel of Halloween.  Take the kids to a pumpkin patch to choose their very own pumpkin, then take them home to carve out the fleshy inside and create gruesome faces to fill with light.   Go old school with simple eyes and mouth arrangement, or purchase any of the many stencils you can buy online and in stores to create veritable works of art on your pumpkins.

Go Trick or Treat

This all-American tradition is the highlight of the season for many children.  Getting dressed up to knock on neighbors’ doors is super exciting for them.  Take the kids around the neighborhood to join in the fun, and don’t forget to keep a stack of treats at your house too, for fellow revelers who come a-knocking.

Halloween Bounce House from South Florida Bounce

Why not treat the kids to something different this year?  Having inflatables in your backyard is guaranteed to impress and will transform a basic Halloween party into a memorable event.  Choose from bounce houses, slip and slides, and giant inflatable games and obstacle courses to ensure hour after hour of bouncy, spooky fun this Halloween.

Call out team today at 561.245.7100 to find out more.

Get Ready for Pumpkin Spice Everything!

It is the beginning of fall and that can only mean that pumpkin season is here with us again. The pumpkin has a rich history of how it rose from being slave’s food to the great American Icon for the Fall Season. During Fall Americans are obsessed with the pumpkin and this is very evident from all the promotional offers of pumpkin-related products. You can literally get everything flavored in pumpkin; coffee, ale, donuts, pies and event tea! Beyond consumption, it is also used as a seasonal décor material.

Tips to pick the best pumpkins

During fall there are a variety of pumpkins in the markets; some for food and some for decorative purposes. Thus, if looking for pumpkins or squash for cooking, below are some of the things you should consider:

  • Orange pumpkins will usually be a good indicator of a ripe melon. However, in some instances, there are green pumpkins that are also ripe.
  • If you are not able to test by color, you can thump the pumpkin. If ready, it should produce a hollow sound.
  • If ready, the pumpkin skin should be hard, and the stem attached to it should be brown and woody.
  • If you are not able to use any of the above measures, you can request for sugar or pie pumpkins at the grocery stores.

Easy to Make Pumpkin Treats

Pumpkin is a healthy ingredient that can be used to make meals for both kids and adults. Fall is the best time to treat your taste buds to the supremacy of the pumpkin:

Whipped Pumpkin Dip

  • Mix pumpkin, pudding mix and whip cream, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl.
  • It can be taken by the spoonful or used to dip fruits such as apples, strawberries, and

Pumpkin Smoothie

  • Freeze some pumpkin puree for about three hours to produce solid pumpkin cubes.
  • Add yogurt, milk or apple juice and the solid cubes to a blender and mix them up.
  • If you like you can add some honey to sweeten and smoothen it.

Caramelized Pumpkin Seeds

  • Place dry pumpkin seeds on a dry non-stick pan over medium heat.
  • Constantly toast them on the pan so that they can roast evenly without sticking to the pan.
  • Once they pop and peel, they are ready to be caramelized.
  • Lower the heat, add some olive oil and sugar to the seeds and stir constantly.
  • Once the sugar has melted, turn down the heat and sprinkle some little salt and allow to cool before serving.

 Jack O’ Lantern

Pumpkins became a classic part of Halloween because of Jack the Legend of the Lantern. Carving Jack O’ Lanterns is a tradition highly associated with Halloween. The best pumpkins for Halloween have slightly ribbed skin and are orange in color. Connecticut Field is the best variety as it can be used for pies as well as carving.

Don’t be caught off guard as we enter the fall season. Get your stash of squash ready for the most delicious and legendary meals as well as for the Halloween Festivities. And let South Florida Bounce and Slide add ‘pumpkin’ flavor to your fall with our Punisher, Toxic Water Revenge Slide, and Hurricane experiences!

Recipes the Whole Family Will Love

Putting a meal on the table that your family will love every day is no mean feat. In fact, getting your family to ooh and aah over every meal at dinnertime is actually not a simple thing to achieve every day. These recipes that we will share with you are going to get your family taking Instagram-worthy photos of each meal before the first bite. They are easy to prepare, cook and also to clean up after.

  1. Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon and Broccoli

Which child loves broccoli? We thought so. How about bacon? We are sure all the hands went up with this one. This dish takes the spin on your good old macaroni and cheese by incorporating some broccoli and topping it off with lots of crispy bacon. Make your usual pasta following the package instructions. Then add the broccoli in the last few minutes of cooking the pasta to leave it crunchy and fresh. Next, cook a luxurious sauce with the milk, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, thyme, and cheese over a low flame until it thickens. Pour this sauce over your pasta and broccoli with a healthy sprinkling of bacon and serve hot.

  1. Home-made meatball subs

Nothing beats a home-made sub loaded with meatballs, pasta sauce, and creamy cheese. This recipe calls for a simple meatball recipe comprised of ground beef, pork, combined with an egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, salt and pepper as well as some milk to bring it all together. All you need to do is knead these ingredients together and let the mixture rest for about half an hour before forming your meatballs and shallow frying them in your choice of cooking oil. Finally, using fresh bread rolls, create your subs by placing the meatballs in the freshly buttered bread and top it off with some pasta sauce and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.

  1. Crispy baked chicken tenders crusted with Parmesan

Everybody loves some chicken tenders. How about upping the ante and baking them instead of deep frying them in oil? Furthermore, this dish is made more delectable by the crusting of Parmesan cheese on the outside. Begin by slicing the chicken breasts into long but not too narrow strips. Secondly, create your batter by whisking eggs, Dijon mustard and paprika for a slight kick. In a second shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs, salt and pepper and Parmesan cheese for the crunchy coating. Dip each flour-dredged chicken tender into the batter, shaking off the excess and going into the breadcrumbs mixture. Repeat this twice before lining them on a baking sheet and baking them for 5-6 minutes on each side. A fantastic dinner served with a fresh garden salad and Dijon mustard as a dip.

These are just a few of the recipes that are out there that your family will definitely love on any day. Furthermore, for those nights you could just not be bothered to whip up an elaborate meal, you can make these quick yet healthful and tasty fixes. Moreover, the prep time and clean up time for these meals is super quick making it a triple win for family dinner times.

“The Mars Room” by Rachel Kushner

The acclaimed novelist Rachel Kushner is back with another novel.
