Teach Your Kids To Set Goals

Every parent wants their kids to succeed. However, most children are not very focused and they tend to lose interest in things as often as they change clothes. Setting goals are one of the ways a child, or anyone for that matter, can achieve anything in life.

So, how do you get your kids to set realistic goals and stick to them?

Let them choose

Nothing is worse than trying to force something down your child’s throat. As much as you may want to live vicariously through your child, let them live their own lives. Most kids know what they want at least in the foreseeable future and that’s all you need to set goals. Ask them what they want, write the goals down and start from there.

Break the goal into small tasks

Getting an A, winning a science fair trophy or becoming a football champion are all achievable goals. However, a lot of time and practice has to go into it and that can be discouraging to kids. Break down the goals into small achievable tasks and celebrate every task that they knock down. As long as the child is feeling they have achieved something and they are getting closer to their goal, they will stay motivated.

Discuss the obstacles

Nothing worth its salt comes easy. In fact, things that are worth it are very hard to achieve. Let your child know that they will face obstacles before achieving their set goals. Ask them what they will do when they face certain obstacles. Give them solutions if they don’t have any or nudge them in the right direction. Having a plan ahead of time will prepare the child so they won’t be thrown off when the obstacle comes.

Be an example

One of the most effective ways to help your child set and keep goals is to lead by example. Kids do what parents do, not what they say. Be someone who follows through on everything and involves the family on where you are going and what you want to achieve. Once in a while, sit down the child and give them a story of that one goal you thought was impossible but you achieved it and give them the plan you used.

Set deadlines

As long as there is no time limit to doing something, procrastination tends to thrive. Human beings work best under pressure so it is necessary to put a time frame on everything you do. Once you have broken down the big goal into small tasks, put a deadline on every task and follow through to see that the task was done.

The secret to helping kids achieve their goals is to have them set realistic and specific goals that they are passionate about. You should also applaud and reward them as they get closer and closer to their goal and be an encouraging parent rather than a nagging one. Sometimes kids just want to feel supported and noticed and working on their goals with them is a great way to do that.

Road Trip With The Kids

Road trips are one of those fun activities that parents and children can really enjoy. With the right amount of planning, you can have a blast with your children and make incredible memories that will last.

Here are tips you can use to make sure your road trip is a roaring success:

Involve the kids

Don’t just plan the trip on your own and then spring it on the kid’s last minute. Most children, especially teenagers, hate surprises because they already have plans. Involve them in the decision-making process; brain-storm with them on the destination, best route to use, what time to start along with other ideas. Doing so gives the kids a sense of ownership.

Plan carefully

Spontaneity is great. However, the last thing you want is to get lost and have a boring trip in the name of spontaneity. Plan everything from the pit stops, hotels to lounge and everything you want to do before you leave. It is easy to follow a plan when you have one and not miss out on some great things.

Pack lots of food

Do not forget to pack a lot of foods and drinks. Hungry children are usually cranky individuals who are not co-operative and can make the trip a really miserable experience. Snacks keep the children busy and help take the edge off being on the road for hours on end. For drinks, opt for sippy cups and straw bottles instead of juice box because of the mess these make.

Entertainment

There is nothing worse than idle kids. Plan for ample entertainment to keep the kids busy throughout the trip and avoid bad behavior. Digital or phone games are great for older kids while younger children can carry crayons and coloring books and also magnet games. If your car has a screen, carry a few entertaining DVDs especially cartoons and kids shows. However, regulate the amount of entertainment to have some bonding time with the kids.

Be creative

A road trip is not about you driving while the kids play games at the back. It’s about having some great family time together. Get creative ideas on things to do together such as spotting landmarks, naming all the counties you see on on-coming vehicles and naming the capital cities of the world. Make sure you give each kid a travel journal and a pencil so they can write and capture memories throughout the trip and also buy cameras for them.

Pack well

There are certain essentials you must carry including a few blankets, pillows, sealable plastic bag, flashlight, jumper cables, jackets, first aid kit and wet wipes. Make sure you know where everything is and pack the one item that gives the baby comfort before sleeping.

Taking a road trip with the kids can be one of the most exciting things you will ever do as a family. It provides the kids the opportunity to be free and open because mom and dad are not tired from work and it can be a memorable time.

Toxic Toys

From the moment a mom is told she is pregnant, strict measures start coming into play. They stop drinking alcohol, avoid certain foods and even change their clothing to make themselves and baby safe and comfortable. These measures get even more intense after the baby is born when everything they use to eat is boiled and sanitized. Sadly, what some parents don’t know is that some of the toys they buy for their children contain high amounts of toxins. While boiling may kill most of the germs found in toys, it cannot get rid of the amounts of toxins found in some toys that cause adverse health issues to humans.

Chemicals found in toys

Phthalates: This is a chemical used to make plastic toys soft and chewable for the child and pets. Unfortunately, this chemical is highly toxic in large amounts and it is known to cause disorders like asthma, skeletal defects, and allergies. It also causes damage to the lungs, kidneys and male reproduction system. This chemical is so toxic that it was banned from being used in the United States and the European Union but, it is still being used in countries like China, Taiwan, Philippines, and Japan which make 80% of all toys found in the world.

Arsenic and lead: As children grow older, parents move from chewable toys and buy leather balls, ropes, and rubber toys to play with. In the production of these leather balls, a lethal chemical called arsenic is used to remove hair from the animal hides to make leather. Other chemicals used in this process include lead, sulfites, lime, bleach and other acids. Arsenic and lead are not only absorbed by ingestion but also through touching and smelling.

Paint: Have you ever seen those very colorful toys that just invite you to buy them? Well, don’t. Most of these toys come from China and they are painted to make them more attractive. When the baby puts the toy in their mouth, the paint comes out and they ingest it.

Dye: Most fluffy toys, tennis balls, and ropes are dyed so they can be colorful and attractive to the children and pets. Unfortunately, dye contains harmful chemicals and should not be ingested.

How to protect your pets and children from toxic toys

  • Buy US-made toys because they are likely to have fewer chemicals. The United States has many corporations and institutions in place to ensure all their toys are toxin-free.
  • Sniff the toys before buying. If they have a strong chemical smell, don’t buy them.
  • Avoid toys that are brightly colored or dyed.
  • Stay away from vinyl toys which are a soft plastic and ropes because they come apart easily and contain dye.
  • Don’t buy small toys that can be a choking hazard and always check the label for manufacturer’s statements.

With everything you have done to protect your child from harm, don’t let something as simple as a toy ruin all your effort. Do your due diligence when buying all toys and avoid hand me downs or toys that are several years old.

Holiday Games and Crafts

christmas-2992740_640The holiday season is always one where traditions are passed along to the next generation. This year, cut out the electronics and television, gather everyone around and introduce them to a few new holiday games you kids will love playing year-round.

Despite the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ here are a few different games you can play during the holiday season:

Jingle Bell Toss is one that combines skill and technique and requires the following materials:

  • Multi-colored Jingle Bells
  • Plastic Beverage Cups
  • Cutting board or flat surface that can be raised

1st set up the plastic drinking cups with two under the board to create a 60-degree angle allowing the back of the cups to be slightly elevated. Each player gets up to 5-Jingle Bells and stands 2-3 feet away from the board with cups. Taking turns, the player tosses the jingle-bells underhand into the cup trying to get the bells in and score a point. The winner with the most points after 15-rounds wins! The game is an easy game for ages 5+ and can be played with minimum materials as well as the mess.

Next game is one where a camera is required and can become the highlight of any holiday party young or old. What you’ll need:

  • Crepe Paper Streamers
  • Holiday Bows with Sticky tape
  • Tape
  • Blind-fold

You will need to select two players at a time to compete with others to win. The blindfold is placed on the first person, the second person spins the person around and using the streamers and bows wrapping the person while they rotate around the room. The person who has decorations on them will be full of surprises while the rest of the family gets a huge festive laugh! Lots of fun and can keep any party alive.

The last game is ultra-simple and can help create multiple laughter. What you’ll need:

  • White Paper Plates
  • Black Magic Markers

With this simple and exciting game, you have the contestants hold the paper plate to the top of their head. Using the magic marker, coach the players to draw a snowman or Christmas Tree on the paper plate.

These are just a few games to help keep your holiday season bright and cheery.

Dunk Tank Rental Fun

The dunk tank is a classic form of entertainment in America and can be found in almost every fair and festival in the US. At the most basic level, the dunk tank involves a seat that is placed above a small reservoir of water where the person being ‘dunked’ will be seated. The device has a button that has to be hit with an object, from a distance. Once the button is hit, the seat will retract and the person being dunked will land in the water below.

If you are still unconvinced about the fun that you would have with a dunk tank rental, let this article convince you with the following reasons.

  1. It is a fun activity for both kids and adults

In most get together involving families, you will find the children and adults forming separate groups since there are very few activities that interest both age groups. The dunk tank is one of the activities that will be fun for all members of the party to engage in. If the adults in the party have a wackier sense of humor, nothing can interest the kids as an opportunity to ‘dunk’ one of their parents.

  1. It Improves hand-eye coordination in kids

Growing children need activities that enable them to improve their spatial awareness and develop their hand-eye coordination. While organized sports can be a bit daunting for your children, the dunk tank presents a fun, and pressure-free, atmosphere for them to work on their aim. As they try to hit the target and ‘dunk’ a victim, your kids are not only having fun, but they are also improving their hand-eye coordination which will be helpful later in life.

  1. Dunk tanks come in various sizes

You don’t need an extremely large yard to rent a dunk tank. They come in a wide range of sizes and complexity. Even a small yard can accommodate one of the smaller models. If you are lucky enough to have a larger space to work with and are not working on a tight budget, then you can really go out in terms of getting one of the more elaborate models. These typically have larger water tanks and can ‘dunk’ more than one victim at a time.

  1. Dunk tanks are perfect for fundraising events

If you are hosting a fundraising event, then nothing raises money as fast as a dunk tank. All you need is a list of ‘prominent’ individuals to volunteer as dunking victims and you will have a long queue of participants. ‘Prominent’ in this case is relative to the crowd that you are working with. If it is an office event, then a few members of the top management brass will do. If you are working with a kid’s party, then some of the parents (or better yet, teachers) can volunteer to be dunked.

Whether it is for fundraising or just for a small get together, dunk tank rentals are an affordable way to have fun.  You can reserve a dunk tank with South Florida Bounce for your next carnival, event or party.  Call today to reserve 561-245-7100 or 954-420-2942.

Inflatable Obstacle Course Fun

Obstacle courses are, as the name suggests, charted courses which have physical obstacles that the participants are supposed to work their way through. Traditionally, obstacle courses were set up permanently in parks and other open spaces for the public’s enjoyment. Now, you can order an inflatable course for a period of time and have it delivered to your home or any open space that you have available to you.

The popularity of obstacle courses was due to the fact that they were a fun activity that had health benefits. These same factors also work when you choose to rent an inflatable obstacle course. Here are some of the benefits that you, your family, and other partygoers will get to enjoy with an inflatable obstacle course.

  1. Increase in physical fitness levels

One of the (partially warranted) criticisms that face modern society is that fewer people are engaging in physically exerting outdoors activities. With the rapid developments in entertainment technology, it is getting harder to lure adults and children from their gaming consoles, streamable high definition shows and fast broadband internet. The inflatable obstacle course is the perfect activity that incorporates both fun and physical exercise.

After a few hours out on an obstacle course, you will increase your fitness levels, burn off excess calories, increase your cardiovascular health and get the opportunity to revel in the fresh outdoor air. It also gives you a break from the monotony of the gym as the only place where you get to exercise.

  1. You can rent inflatable obstacle courses in different sizes

There are many models to choose from when renting inflatable obstacle courses, depending on the space you are working with, and the group that you are planning to entertain. If you are hiring a course for smaller kids, then you need one that is not extremely physically challenging. Likewise, if you are shopping for a bunch of fitness buffs, then you can go for a more challenging obstacle course. The key is to understand the participants who will be enjoying your obstacle course.

  1. It promotes the spirit of teamwork and collaboration

There is a reason why obstacle courses are ubiquitous in corporate team building centers; they help foster a spirit of togetherness and teamwork among the participants. There is a natural sense of camaraderie that comes from overcoming challenges together as a group. This is why inflatable obstacle courses should be an important part of any party involving children.

  1. It engages your resilience and problem-solving skills

This is another reason for ensuring that your next kids’ party has an inflatable obstacle course. Obstacle courses do not just engage your child physically; they engage them mentally as they try to find ways of ‘defeating’ the obstacles in their path. It also promotes resilience and perseverance in your child, all of which are important traits to have later in life.

Play is how children learn to interact with each other and acquire important social skills. Incorporating the obstacle course into their play-world will go a long way towards helping you raise a helpful member of society.

Get Winter Ready In Florida

Florida has one of the mildest winters in the continental United States. In fact, this city doesn’t experience typical winter.  It doesn’t get to snow so you don’t get to use fireplaces. However, there are a few ways through which you could create your very own ‘winter’ so that you don’t feel deprived of the season. Check them out below.

Get cozy with a winter film

Just because the temperatures are high doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the spirit of winter inside your home. Simply turn your AC down, grab a cozy blanket, and get your favorite Christmas movie running. This will get you feeling all winter-ish in no time. You can begin with some classics like A Christmas Story or others from your collection. Don’t have any winter movies? Not to worry, just do a quick web search and get some ideas of what to buy or stream.

Hit up the ice rink

One of the common features of the Christmas movies shot during winter is skating at the rink while holding hands and laughing. In fact, this is a classic winter activity that you should undertake. To get this feeling, get your scarf and gloves on and go for a skate at the ice rink. This will not only cool you down amid the Florida heat, it also gives you an opportunity to experience good old traditional winter fun that takes place across the rest of America. And make sure you get good company as you plan for this.

Attend snow festivals

Florida hosts multiple snow festivals that accommodate just about everyone who desires to celebrate winter spirit in t-shirts and shorts. This place is especially great for families. One of the popular festivals around this time is the Snow Fest in Sarasota. The festival features a snowman building, amusement rides, Santa, arts and crafts, as well as snow globes. This is a great way to enjoy winter, spend time with your family, and have your picture taken with Santa.

Winter Treats

You can also get into the winter spirit going by embracing baking recipes for cookies and cakes at home. You can fill the house with the smell of warm cinnamon and vanilla because that is what winter is all about. You can make sugar cookies, cinnamon rolls, gingerbread cookies and even Nanaimo bars among others.

Visit a sub-zero ice bar

If you’re over 21 years, you can pop into a sub-zero ice bar. Orlando’s famed Icebar is the world’s largest permanent ice bar. It is made using 70 tons of carved ice. This bar is a great place to experience a North Pole atmosphere in Florida while you enjoy your favorite cocktails. You only need to make sure you book ahead of time because the waiting list can be pretty long.

Well, although Florida doesn’t naturally experience winter, it takes a little effort and creativity to experience a winter in this state. You just need to look around and see how best to make the most of the opportunities around you.

DIY Holiday Teacher Gifts

Teachers work hard and relentlessly to guide and educate kids. Therefore, it is only fair to appreciate them for the good work they do and for their dedication. And what better time to appreciate them than during holidays! Even then, finding the perfect teacher gift can be hard. Well, the good news is that you don’t have to break the bank to show appreciation to the teachers. Instead, you can opt for some amazing Do-It-Yourself (DIY) crafts that will melt their hearts. There are a number of meaningful DIY gift ideas you could consider. All you need to do is gather your supplies and get started. Check them out below.

Personalized stationery set

This is an excellent choice for the teacher as they can use it to organize their tools of the trade. From the pens to the many notes they send students home with, a stationery set will let them have all their stationery organized well in one place. You can also consider including a DIY thank you card to go with it making it even more personal.

A monogram tote bag

A monogram tote bag made with a freezer paper stenciling technique crowned with a cute gift tag is another awesome DIY teacher holiday gift idea. Of course, every teacher would appreciate the gift of a day-to-day bag to help them lug around graded papers and handouts, among other things. Be sure to play with the words on the cute gift tag so that they can connect with it.

Mason jar school supply organizer

Teachers often use mason jars to store most of their student supplies such as pens, pencils, and coloring pens. Therefore, a mason jar school supply organizer makes for another excellent DIY teacher gift that will help the teacher to stay organized hence they will definitely appreciate it. You can personalize it by including the teacher’s name on it as well as prepare some labels for the jars to complete it.

A personalized mug

You don’t have to stick with DIY gifts that are directly associated with teaching. You could consider doing a personalized mug by simply transforming a plain mug with some form of art. To do this, you will need oil-based paint pens and a good scrapbook sticker. You can then use a monogram design you like from the scrapbook sticker. Carefully stick it on the mug and use your colored paint pens to fill the area around monogram with multiple dots. Once you have the design you want, you can then peel off the sticker. This will leave you with a desirable mug your teacher will definitely fall in love with.

There are many simple DIY ideas you can embrace to appreciate teachers over the holidays. You just need to identify one that you can flourish in and implement it superbly. It would also be nice if you could find out your teacher’s preferences before choosing what to prepare for them. And most importantly, have fun while making your gift!

Make Memories With A Photo Booth

Photo booths have become a popular feature in almost every function. From celebrity events to wedding receptions and bar mitzvahs, these booths have proven to be a great party prop. If you’re contemplating having a photo booth at your next event but are not sure how it works, here are some ideas to help you make great memories with a photo booth:

  1. Customize your photos to match your event

Photo booths come with the versatility of letting you have photo strips that match your event palette. This could include a custom logo at the bottom of the strip or your signature. Such customizations make the photos even more personal and memorable for your guests. You can get creative with the photo booth and incorporate your event’s theme, with little details that will not go unnoticed.

  1. You can include other supplies

Photo booths offer you the flexibility of being able to print an unlimited number of strips over the rental period so your guests can have all the fun they want. You can include other add-ons like scrapbooking supplies. These will let your guests add them as they go – leaving them with memories of fabulous keepsakes. All they will need to do is bring their creative side alive.

  1. You can be sure to find a booth that suits your fancy

No matter how you’d like to envision the booth, you can be sure to find endless options that suit your needs. From the enclosed booths that can fit a maximum of five people to the curtained booths that can hold up to 10 people – the options are diverse. You could also opt for an inflatable photo booth that brings in even more fun. You just need to know what works best for your space, as well as the number of guests you are hosting in order to make the right choice.

  1. You can use props

This is perhaps the best thing about using photo booths to make memories. You can include all the sassy props from masks to goofy glasses, hats, and so much more that will get the party going. Props will often get even the most conservative people to get out of their comfort and make great memories in the photo booths.

  1. Photo booths make it personal

When you have photos with custom colors, personalized borders or a theme, your party pictures will definitely be spectacular and memorable. These additional features go a long way in adding that extra sparkle to your memories.

Photo booths are a great way to add some cheer to your events while getting your guests to make some great memories. Your guests will just need to infuse creativity while on the set to make it more fun, personal, and memorable. Giving your guests photos that have a personal touch will definitely make an excellent keepsake they will look at and remember your occasion for years to come. If you do not know the kind of booth that suits your guests for the upcoming event, talk to South Florida Bounce and Slide for some advice.
