South Florida Father’s Day Bloopers

Dad the Film Director

Whenever my children are having a moment, my husband takes a picture or video. While that may seem ordinary for most proud parents, my husband’s point of view is to take photographs only when the children are misbehaving. Last Father’s Day my son Josh was having a meltdown because he didn’t want to go to grandfathers for dinner. Well Josh was ranting and raving my husband grabbed his cell phone and took a picture. As you can imagine this resulted in our son having escalated behavior. With giant crocodile tears streaming out of his eyes Josh asked my husband “why are you taking pictures of me?” In which my husband replied “so we can help you remember what a bad kid you are.”

Dad the Dog Lover

Last year my daughter Emily was begging us for a puppy. Much to our surprise my husband came home with two pit bulls that were puppies. I asked my husband why he brought home two dogs instead of one. He replied “They were buy one get one free!”

Dad the Geographer

While my husband was watching our children, he asked them several times to get ready for bed in which the kids weren’t listening. My husband Jerry informs them if they didn’t get ready for bed then God would send them to hell and then transfer them to Los Angeles. Although my children have never been to LA, they immediately listened.

Dad the Philosopher

After returning home from church on Sunday our son asked my husband, “when God punished Eve what did he make her become?” Hubby’s answer was “a housewife”

Dad the Interviewer

Our dad always likes to ask the funniest questions. Last week he asked my eight-year-old brother how he would make a marriage work? My brother’s answer was “tell your wife she’s beautiful even if she looks like a dump truck”.

Dad the Comic

Whenever we are last in our father’s care, he loves to do his version of a standup routine. Here’s a few of the jokes he likes to tell: “That woman so scary I’ve seen better hair on a brush.” Or “that woman so scary, I’ve seen better legs on a pool table”.

Dad the Non-Chef

Our dad loves to spend time in the kitchen. Space there’s only one problem, he’s not very good at it. We gave him a cookbook once and he looked puzzled. Our mom asked him what the problem was in which my dad replied “I can’t do anything with this cookbook.” My mother looking perplexed asked why. Dad pronounced “because every recipe begins the same way. It says take a clean dish and…”

South Florida Birthday Party Hacks

It’s safe to say that every parent wants their child’s birthday party to be special.  If you’re anything like the rest of us, you live by Murphy’s Law. That being said, at one point or another we’ve all had to resort to a little bit of hacking. Although hacking sounds like stealing private information from the Internet, being a hack means additional creativity. In this blog, we highlight some of our favorite birthday party hacks for you to try out yourself.

Many of these ideas can be found in places like Pinterest. One creative way of making a hand washing station for your party involves a 5-gallon water cooler with spigot, to short bungee cords, a plastic paper towel holder with adhesive strips, and the utility bucket. Fill the water jug with water, place on the ends of a picnic table, remove adhesive strip on the back of the paper towel holder and stick onto the water cooler. Next, use bungee cords to secure paper towel holder in place. Place empty bucket to catch excess water. Place hand sanitizer or anti-batch soap and voila, you have a portable hand washing station.

Looking for a new way to present healthy snacks such as veggie tray or fruit? These two hacks are super easy and will make you look like a hero. Add sliced fruit to skewers and serve in place of cake or less health-conscious foods. Remove and seed the tops of two Bell peppers and use for serving bowls for ranch dressing, in an effort to give your veggie tray a fresh presentation.

Looking for the ultimate gift to give to your guests? Why not give them a puppy? Not a real puppy, instead place small stuffed animals that look like puppies in a white basket or a dog bed at the end of the party allow your guests pick the puppy of their choice. This is a great idea rather than giving gift bags or some other novelty idea.

When you live in a place like South Florida, bugs a can be annoying, uninvited guests.  Keep the little pests out of drinks with decorative muffin tins. Use a hole punch and place a hole in the center bottom of the muffin cup, tip upside down over an 8-ounce glass, add a straw. Not only does the muffin tins keep the bugs out away, the presentation can match the rest of your party decor making it functional and beautiful.

In addition to keeping bugs away, rather than serving ice cream use muffin cups.  Use one scoop per cup and serve to guests. This is the perfect solution for preventing ice cream from melting everywhere. Not only is this functional, it makes you look like a genius.

This and other party ideas can be found on our blog weekly. For more information regarding party rentals, contact our offices for the best selection in bounce houses, waterslides and obstacle courses.

The first one we should bring to your attention is found on Friday nights at the Palmetto Bay Village Center. It’s the first Friday of every month and you can be sure that this will kick off any weekend you have planned. You can catch a mouth watering burger as many people request from places like Burger Beast or Yorba’s Greek Cuisines.

Rated with 4 Stars by Yelp.com this is a great place to kick off those weekend plans and staycations. The next one up that’s really awesome is found at Churrasco’s Grill where the names are out of this world, right along with the savory flavors. Items and Dishes like their Cheesezilla and the Steak with chimichurri sauce just melt in your mouth no matter what the season. Great place to dine in with the kids or take someone on a date. Either way this is a fantastic way to experience great culture and the flavor that South Florida is known for, tropical fusion.

One truck you’re definitely going to have to try is that of the Curbside Gourmet. Tastefully done and screaming with flavor is their crabcake sliders with lemon tarragon. This is not food trucks from the back of the shop they’ve become a real dining experience where you can enjoy cuisines from around the world in one night at a cost that’s affordable and done by real flavor pro’s. Give this truck a try and you’ll instantly become a fan.

So whether your visiting for the first time or you’ve become a follower, you’ll love the experience food trucking offers you. Take a night out and have some fun, these are almost always 100% family friendly, very cool environments and the opportunting to taste your face off. Check out a food truck event. Winning Tactics for Bounce House Rentals

Winning Tactics for Bounce House Rentals – From South Florida Bounce and Slide

Of course our client’s safety and well being are always on the forefront of what we do at South Florida Bounce. Secondary to health and safety issues we’ve noticed some common complaints from parents and event planners that we thought we would mention. People like to bring these things to our attention and we would like to share them with you to put any doubt you may have out of your mind for good.

If you are renting a bounce house in South Florida, sure that you get a signed contract whether you’re renting from us or another company, it’s just good business. Know and understand the time schedules from set-up to tear down and make sure that’s included in your rental agreement. Sign it, date it and get copies.  We understand the day of your event can be very hectic, but we also understand that this is the responsibility of both parties to secure their copies. By making sure that we both have our own copies gives us both peace of mind.

Next, make sure that the size you’re getting is correct for your space requirements. Often times during parties the bounce house rentals get extremely busy, and the inventory can become scarce at a moment’s notice.  This issue can lessen your chances of getting another bounce house in the time of the party. If at any point you’re unsure what size to get contact a professional company that can help you, this way you avoid a big party blunder the day of your event.

If need to Rent a Bounce House in Lake Worth or West Palm Beach – Give us a Call  – We have a large service area.

Report anything that is unfavorable directly to the company.  What we’ve found is most companies out there care about their reputation and manage it accordingly. We always want to make things right and it’s our job to do that.  Don’t hesitate to let us know if you like or dislike something. Although we prefer the former to the latter, we do want to give you the best customer service possible.

Make sure your location allows bounce house or any of our other party rentals such as obstacle courses, water slides and climbing rocks. We’re always happy to accommodate, but the grounds you select to have your party is strict and we can’t break the rules. Be sure to check with the park, country club, or parking lot attendants if the rental is in code and meets their standards.

By using these little hints as a guide to your rentals, you should have the best experience possible.  We want to make your day special, like your business is to us.

If you have any suggestions or would like to learn more about our party rentals, please contact our offices.

The History of Moonwalk Bounce Houses

Bounce House History the Moonwalk – From South Florida Bounce – Palm Beach and Broward County’s Largest Selection of Bounce Houses for Rent

Since 1959 the moonwalk has been invited and shared by millions of people of all ages to jump for joy.  Other notorious names for the moonwalk is inflatable castle, Bouncy Castle, and the Astrojump or Spacewalk.  These structures are typically made with PVC, vinyl or nylon and are powered by high output fans or blowers that include some type of the landing pad and are much like jumping on a trampoline.  Here are some other interesting facts that you may not have known about this well designed craze that’s taken the world by storm.

The first inflatable bounce house was created in Shreveport, Louisiana by a man called John Scurlock.  Scurlock was an engineer who built inflatable domes, tents, and safety air cushions.  In the 1986 the Fun Plex opened in Memphis, Tennessee and was the first place to include multiple units more commonly known as the Inflatable Zoo.

The first waterslide was created by Scurlocks son, Frank, in the nineties.  This has become some of our more popular requests, especially in a place such as South Florida.

The latest and greatest of these fun party favorites is known as the obstacle course.  Shows like “Wipeout” found on ABC in 2008 became an international sensation and where contestants competed against each other on multiple inflatable apparatus and falling into a body of water.  The show became so well known for its fun commentators, but mostly watching people becoming plummeted by unexpected inflatables that move.  The most fun was watching the participants get whacked with smack balls and moving propellers.  Many inflatable rental companies today offer a variety of obstacle courses and waterslides that contain giant rubber balls and can be used the same way.

The largest inflatable in the world is located in Europe and offers a variety of inflatable features such as a zoo of blow up animals, a water park, equipped with slides and trampolines that are surrounded by a body of water.

Today you can find a huge variety of bounce house rental throughout the world.  This party feature has apparently caught on and isn’t going anywhere soon.

Many people know that introducing your guests to the wonderful world of bounce houses, waterslides and obstacle courses are not only something that’s evolved, it’s something that will make a history in your family going down as the greatest party ever!

Best Food Truck Vendors in Broward County

Best Food Truck Vendors in Broward County

The staff at South Florida Bounce loves the local community.  So some of our posts focus of what’s good around town.  So we present you some of the best food truck vendors in Broward County.

Everyone knows that when it comes to food vendors, some are better than others. When you live in a place like Broward County it seems almost every weekend these guys are at some event in town. But how do you know which are best and which ones to avoid? Well, we compiled a quick list of the ones that we think are pretty darn tasty and here they are:

Every Tuesday night in the City of Plantation you’ll find a family night at Heritage Park. Vendors like Munchie’s Snack Shack, Paradise Cups and BC Tacos.

Munchies Snack Shack offers some of the most delicious burgers made of 100% Angus Beef, and pair that with some curly fries and you’ve got a meal fit for a king.

Paradise Cups will cool you off with sweet treats, such as snow cones, ice cream and of course our favorite, Hawaiian Shaved Ice.
Of course, BC Tacos hosts an incredible selection of tacos that are all a-la-gourmet. Don’t forget to try their fried avocado tacos or the fresh buffalo Mahi for a taste that’s out of this world. Aye CA rumba!

If you’re looking for something more unique than a burger or hot dog, then we suggest checking out Red Zepplin who specializes in Main lobster rolls and lobster bisque. Nothing better than digging into this buttery shell fish that’s a step beyond the rest.
Hands down, Tip-A-Roos takes first prize for barbecue. We fell in love with their tri-tip that has the horseradish dressing paired with a side of their famous coleslaw, you just know you’ve met the South.

What would a food truck event be in South Florida without the Cuban Press? You can fill up on some hardy Cuban sandwiches with a side of rice and beans and never have to step foot in Little Havana. An excellent choice to experience diverse cuisine.

If you’re looking for a fun evening out, that’s generally a kid friendly place, look on the net at sites like “Food Truck Invasion” or Tunes-N-Trucks to find out who and where these events will be throughout Broward. Other than the food itself, most of the time these gatherings are FREE to the public.

We hope this helps you make a selection the next time you’ve ended up in Food Truck land. While we only highlighted a few here, there’s a lot of other vendors that are just as worthy of our ‘food critiqueness’. We’d like to hear from you!
Let us know who you think is the best food truck vendors in Broward County.

Don’t forget to check us out next week when we give you the low-down on Food Trucks in Palm Beach County to add to our series.

Things to Consider When Considering Hiring Event Planners

Are you thinking about hiring an event planner for your next even? Consider these tips from the team at South Florida Bounce.

“Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your family, friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way.” Barbara Bush

In the event that you should ever have to hire a party planner, we may have a few ‘Pearls of wisdom’ for you.  While no one will argue, there’s a lot of party and event planners in the South Florida area, it’s best to select someone you either know or have a referral.  But if you don’t, we compiled a few tips that may come in handy. Pass this on if you’re in the market for one of these incredibly hard working individuals help you with the next Smith Family Swaraj.

Write down everything you want to do for the party.

Break down what you want the event planner to help you with, then add what the planner’s responsibilities are, what yours will be (if any) and then what you’ll work on together.

Listen to the planner, once you’ve agreed on a plan.  Get what you paid for by letting this person assist where they are needed.  Try hard not to get in their way, by offering limited direction and control.

Finding a reputable planner is easy when you live in an area where everyone you know is in the hospitality business.  They’ve probably got event planners coming out of the palm tree prawns.  Ask for their recommendations, then check their references and make sure you get a good report from places like the Chamber of Commerce or any other association the planner may be involved in.

Don’t waste time, it’s the only one thing you can never get back. By living a life of demanding to get what you paid for or bust is perfectly acceptable.  If the planner isn’t doing a good job for you, never be afraid to go in another direction.  Most people you encounter will want to carry out a good reputation.  But don’t waste your own time or theirs if you aren’t happy with their performance. If they’re new, be gentle but let them know why it isn’t working out.  They will be glad you did later on.

Ask for a proposal, once you’ve determined a budget.  That should be in writing with a break-down of work expected.  A work for hire agreement is one that may be expected to be signed by both parties.  The planner should have these items, since these are industry standards.

Remember that these folks do not have to be licensed and are not regulated by the government.  Do your due diligence and expect a background check to be done. Especially if this person will be given permission to pay for charges with your credit card or if they’ll be involved with entering your home.  Safety first, a good event planner will be understood and should be willing to accommodate.

Negotiating their prices is perfectly legal.  Ask them to go lower if you feel that other people have offered a greater value.  On the flip side, tip them if they are deserving of a job well done.

The most important element here is to remember why you’re throwing the party or event in the first place. Although it’s normal for many people to get anxious when planning a big celebration or corporate outing, but getting the right person to help you can make a big difference.  By making a solid and agreeable plan before throwing the party, having a realistic budget and a good working relationship with your planner will make your life easier.
