Events You Can Plan on a Budget

Since the end of the school year is just around the corner, there will be plenty of activities planned for the spring and summer months. If you’ve been hired or appointed to prepare the next charitable event or fundraiser and are unsure of what you can do with a tight budget, we’re here to give you a few ideas.

Idea One: Use a crockpot to cook the dogs! Place a little water at the bottom of a crockpot and then add your fully-cooked hot dogs to help steam them. You don’t need to spend a ton of money if you get creative. However, if you do want to make your event more impressive, SFB offers a full line of fun food appliances to help you.

Idea Two: DIY Balloon Attractions can be found in places such as Pinterest and a ton of blogs online. You may want to rent a helium tank and stock up on additional streamers. However, making these decorations for any party is a ton of fun. Don’t forget to mix it up with the fundraiser’s or charity’s logo colors. Also, to create more interest use different size balloons.

Idea Three: Since you’ll be raising money for your charitable cause, raffle off some white elephant goods. No matter what the age the children and adults love a good ‘white elephant’ since they get to take something with them for their donation.

Idea Four: Don’t forget to capture the participant’s email address so you can follow up with a thank you giving the donors the total of money raised in a newsletter. The emails can help when it comes to planning future parties and fundraisers.

Idea Five: Get volunteers to help with clean-up tasks and other aspects of planning. Most people want to help when it comes to valid reasons. The best part is how often they enjoy when someone asks them to be part of the team.

Idea Six: Rather than hiring a celebrity to your event, bring in the pups! You can make a simple kissing booth where your dog is the star! Who doesn’t love to get a kiss from a dog? Be cautious when it comes to the animal. You want to make sure these puppies are docile and friendly. Best part if the canines don’t require a hefty salary!

These tips may help you when it comes to budgeting your fundraiser or charity. In the meantime, be sure to leave us a comment on what type of blog topics you’d like us to cover!

Kid’s Party Themes for 2018

Party Decoration Ideas for Your Child’s Birthday

Last season we caught the party decoration trends and found characters like the Minions and inside tent sleepovers to sweep Coconut Creek area like wildfire. This year there’s been a change in the décor, but it’s just as cute as last year’s party ideas for child birthdays. If you’ve been struggling with a theme, we found it here and just in time for 2018!

Idea One: Rainbows seem to be popping up everywhere in the kid party section. Rather than pastels for the girls and bold primary colors for the boys, the rainbow party is appropriate for any gender. While we found this theme to entail a plethora of different ways to display this color scheme, we can tell you it’s a fun and inviting look no matter what festival or celebration. From party streamers to balloons you can give the appearance of an exciting event even if you’re on a budget. Don’t forget to include the favorite My Little Pony for the toddler ages or Olympics for the older children. There are endless possibilities with these color schematics where just about anything goes! While just about any of our inflatables will work for this theme, we do recommend the Candy Land attraction to be an excellent fit for the youngsters!

Idea Two: Panda Bears Are Everywhere! Scour the internet, and you’ll find just about every mommy blogger writing about Panda Bear Parties. Just about every party favor you can think of includes a cute panda bear on it, and the kids seem to love the idea! If you’re looking for a little fun with some photo opportunities, try face painting the kids to look like pandas and rent our photo booth to take some super cute pics! They’ll love the use of the photobooths and so will you as you’re not snapping thousands of images with your cell phone while managing the rest of the party!

Idea Three: Unicorns seem to be a trendy topic all around these days. The mystical horse with the horn on the head that can fly has been enchanting us for years. But, for 2018 this is a craze is getting a lot of attention. For young girls, unicorns make an excellent birthday décor. There are tons of creative ideas for everything from games to prizes. For instance, ring toss using a simple cone can be loads of fun, and almost any age loves the activity. No matter what you end up with the unicorn party theme is a hot one for 2018 where you can’t go wrong.

We hope these ideas add a little spark to your party planning or in this case some sparkle. Nonetheless, we’re here if you need any assistance with your child’s special day.

Ideas for Making Parenting Easier

When it comes to things like rewarding your kids, don’t make the mistake of not satisfying yourself. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs any person will undertake, why not make it as easy as possible? We at South Florida Bounce have some tips to help you do just that with these daily habits steering you in the right direction.

Tip 1.) No Yelling. When we make the mistake of yelling at our kids, we think our message will come across more efficiently. However, by speaking methodically and quietly, you become more powerful because your child will hear your communication rather than just the sound of screaming.

Tip 2.) Be Grateful for What You Have. Since kids are extremely impressionable, it only makes sense to make a good example. Teaching kids that you’re grateful for what you do have or the little things are invaluable and a must. Don’t forget to include them in your blessings by telling them each day how much you adore them.

Tip 3.) Don’t wait until the end of the week to do the laundry. Wash a load a day. It doesn’t cost you any more than when you do it all on the weekend. Save yourself time and money by doing one per day and see how much extra time you just added to your calendar.

Tip 4.) Tackle a massive task a day. Whether that means filing your taxes or cleaning the kid’s game room, many necessary evils are lurking. By taking each day and using your time efficiently, you will be more organized and will accomplish more than you can imagine. For instance, purging toys is always a daunting task. But, by not overlooking that task and tackling it before it gets out of control, you’ll be having an easier time. By the way, it always sucks picking up toys before company shows up, is never fun nor easy. Imagine how cool it would be not to have to worry because the deed was already done? Awesome!

Tip 5.) Plan a weekly menu and stick to it! As we all know, kids can be picky eaters. But, there’s plenty of benefits to having a list even when your son or daughter wants to have a party. Besides, there’s a lot of time management when you hear the words “I don’t like that” or “Ewww gross, I’m not eating that.” Sit down with your kids and show them recipes and pictures to get a good menu down.

By doing following these excellent tips, you’ll save time, money and will make your job as a parent much more comfortable.

The Best Mermaid Birthday Party

Event Bloggers Who Love to Throw a Party in South Florida

Event planning has become a huge business. That couldn’t be a more accurate statement when you live in a place such as South Florida. Since the weather is almost always ideal for outdoor planning, there’s parties, bah mitzvahs and a variety of other celebrations where event planning is practically necessary. It seems nearly every weekend; this demographic is booked with making the party a gigantic hit. In this blog, we quote a few of the event bloggers who give you some valuable insight on how they threw some of the best birthday parties around town.

Event Blogger April Tan hosts a blog called “Catch My Party” where she gives a plethora of tips on throwing child themed birthdays. Here’s what she had to say about coming up with the concepts, “With mermaids, it’s all about the decorating. I created a visually stimulating fantasy world using pastel colors such as lavender, turquoise, sea foam green, and pink. I also used the color white as my base to keep the aesthetics feeling light and airy. Accents with pearls, starfish, and fish kept the theme from under-going. The kids just loved it when they walked into the backyard and seen lots of pretty decorations”.

Next event blogger, Lenzo is more of a one-stop shop for party planning that includes blogs from ghostwriters. Nonetheless, their mission is always to know what the trends are connecting with outside suppliers who want to sell goods. One of the bloggers caught up with us to talk about Glamping Parties for any Diva Troop. “The theme was inspired by the movie “Troop Beverly Hills,” and we focused on keeping the color palette in line with green, different shades of pink and white. This sparked quite a host of fun with the many hues of pink we found. Besides these smashing splashes of color, one very popular kid party favor is the tent. Girls love homemade shelters as much as boys, and they can be easily made. Tents are all the hype and what’s popular at most of the events we see currently.

The last blogger we connected with was from Southern Blue Celebrations. The charming writers who create content on this blog have a million grand ideas for you to try. But, we did speak to one of the phantom writers who told us the “Alice in Wonderland” novelty is what everyone is raving about for 2018. “Last year it was Minions, this year it’s Alice. The girls loved the finger sandwiches and tea party lunch along with the mobile we handcrafted pointing the confusing directions. Nonetheless, our girls wanted to have an outdoor party, so we hung decorations from the tree and set up the table to look like a scene from the movie. Also, we asked the parents to dress the girls like Alice or one of the characters which made the photos super cute and timeless”.

These event bloggers all have the right idea which is to make a point of being innovative but sticking with the trends to keep the children at ease. We hope these were some helpful tips for you as well for your daughter’s next birthday party. Best of luck!

Health & Fitness Made Fun

Health and fitness are two of the most important things you can teach your children today. With childhood obesity being at the forefront of every child physician’s to-do list for a cure, it makes sense to educate our youth on how to combat such things. With our latest series of blogs, we focus on how you can teach your kids about health and fitness that will have you bouncing for joy!

Just about every ‘Mommy Blogger’ in South Florida is reading this post by now saying “Hmmm, maybe I should do that topic too.” Why? Because as responsible parents know, we have to combat our kids with tools they can use while we aren’t there. Kids either like things like sports, or they don’t. Either way, there’s most likely a program that is right for your child that can help them boost metabolism. Find things such as little league organizations and indoor parks that can help your child to become more active.

Limit the time spent gaming and get them outdoors to celebrate fresh air, along with strong muscles. Children tend to stay indoors way too much these days. It just makes sense to get them outside where they can enjoy a solid foundation of living well. Some things you can do to get your kidlets off the couch and motivated:

  1. Take the Stairs Whenever You Can
  2. Walk with Your Kid to the Store
  3. Ride Bikes Together
  4. Visit Indoor Gyms & Yoga Events
  5. Look for Recreational Activity that Involves MOVING

Instruct Your Child on How to Select Healthy Foods

Your children distinctively know the difference between eating marsh mellows versus yogurt. But, it’s up to you to further their education when it comes to making healthy food choices. Introduce them to colorful veggies. Show them how to tell if something is full of GMO’s or food preservatives and then tell them the truth about such things. The more you expose them to, the easier it will be passing on stuff like sugar and soda. In addition, look for venues where kids can make their selections in a simple way. Even places like fast-food are including apples and other garden veggies to their meals.

These tips will help to keep your kids fit as well as in better health. The more they learn at a younger age, the better their chances are avoiding disease like childhood obesity. Hope you found this article enlightening. We’ll see you soon!

Teach Your Kids Useful Skills

Daily Skillset Every Child Should Learn

Before you know it, your kids will be grown and on their own. But, you need to teach your child essential life skills making their daily routines a higher quality of life. No grown-up should be without the knowledge of these useful skills.

Teach Your Kids How to Cook

Cooking is one skillset everyone should have. Because eating is a part of life, it’s important to know food preparation and how to follow a balanced diet. Start teaching your kids to cook even when they are toddlers. You can help them to learn how to make logical decisions when it comes to nutrition. Many people achieve healthy choices by introducing raw diet or giving them alternatives to high sugar, flour or fat. Introduce veggies early and don’t frown when it’s time to enjoy them as a family.

Teach Your Kids How to Deal with Emergencies

Next, teach your kids to dial the phone and how to get to emergency numbers quickly. A recent article that hit the ABC News describes an asthmatic mom being rescued because her seven-year-old knew to call dispatch. Children are smart, and because this boy’s parents ensured him how to call for help, the mother lived to tell the story. It’s important to teach our kids how to act during tough situations. But, it’s also necessary.

Teach Your Kids Self-Defense

Also, teach your kids how to defend themselves adequately. While we don’t always want to think of dangerous scenarios, we do want to know our kids will do the right thing if an attack is present. Enroll your kids in martial arts or sign them up for self-defense classes. These skills are imperative for kids to survive and can be used as adults.

Teach Your Kids How to Manage Time

Time management skills are often terrible for adults much fewer children. However, as parents who learn punctuality, you can pass that down to your kids. In fact, if they see you are late picking them up or dropping them off at soccer practice, school, etc., they will learn this is okay behavior. However, don’t kid yourself, with that “Do as I Say, Not as I Do” mentality. Kids learn from their parents, give them valuable skills, and they’ll never have to embarrass themselves again.

Teach Your Kids About Money

We can all use some extra money at the end of the month, right? You need to teach your kids to have excellent money management skills to ensure they live with financial freedom. Some child psychologists may argue what age is appropriate for kids to learn about money. Regardless, you can start making your kids aware of things like waiting on buying toys or how to use an ATM at a very young age.

These are just a few of life’s lessons that you can do to teach your kids these critical daily skillsets they will use forever. Best of luck!

Are High Tech Kids Smarter?

You have seen them, probably even have them. They are born with a high tech mind, interested in all things technology from the word go and they seem to know exactly what they want. Some of them can take a television set apart and put it back together while some are experts in smartphone use. People call them geeks, others call them tech nerds. The question however is; are tech kids actually smarter than other children? This article will take a look at what makes a child smart and what are the parameters to measure who is smarter than the other.

Is technology helpful?

Everybody will answer with a resounding yes. Technology has taken the world to levels people could only imagine. However, when it comes to your children and their growth, experts agree that technology should be limited. CBS news once reported a story where the tech-heavy city Palo Alto, California limits the use of technology for their kids so they can play and socialize more. One of the most influential people in the technology world, Steve Jobs also limits the use of iPad and iPhone for his children because they inhibit the kids’ cognition, creativity, and intelligence. That said, there is a plethora of games and apps that kids can use to learn and harness their skills as long as they are balanced with physical activity and a healthy social life.

Technology in schools

If you have a grade one child you know that every kid now is being handed a device to carry around in the name of learning. Any school that is worth something has made every effort to provide each kid with a tablet, laptop or iPad. Apart from the fact that the world is being digitized, digital content is cheaper and more convenient than books. But still, the question remains, is technology making these kids smarter?

How to make your kids smarter

There is really no secret to making kids smarter. While some kids may be intellectually smarter than others, old-school habits like hard work, discipline, and the right company are still the fundamentals of success. Parents can play their part to sharpen their kids’ minds by providing them with the right diet, exercise, music lessons, and a peaceful environment. Kids who also get enough sleep and read with their parents tend to be smarter in class.

Technology and wholesomeness

While most parents would like to have smart kids who will invent Facebook and Google, they would also want a child who is well-rounded. The downside of being a geek is that they focus so much on books, computers and other devices that they miss out on everything else in life. These are the same people who are bullied in school because they are weird and anti-social and find themselves single and living with their mother at 40.

While tech kids may look smarter as far as books and devices are concerned, the reality is that being smart involves balancing all the areas of life and not just one. Smart kids are therefore socially, emotionally and mentally intelligent

Teach Your Kids To Set Goals

Every parent wants their kids to succeed. However, most children are not very focused and they tend to lose interest in things as often as they change clothes. Setting goals are one of the ways a child, or anyone for that matter, can achieve anything in life.

So, how do you get your kids to set realistic goals and stick to them?

Let them choose

Nothing is worse than trying to force something down your child’s throat. As much as you may want to live vicariously through your child, let them live their own lives. Most kids know what they want at least in the foreseeable future and that’s all you need to set goals. Ask them what they want, write the goals down and start from there.

Break the goal into small tasks

Getting an A, winning a science fair trophy or becoming a football champion are all achievable goals. However, a lot of time and practice has to go into it and that can be discouraging to kids. Break down the goals into small achievable tasks and celebrate every task that they knock down. As long as the child is feeling they have achieved something and they are getting closer to their goal, they will stay motivated.

Discuss the obstacles

Nothing worth its salt comes easy. In fact, things that are worth it are very hard to achieve. Let your child know that they will face obstacles before achieving their set goals. Ask them what they will do when they face certain obstacles. Give them solutions if they don’t have any or nudge them in the right direction. Having a plan ahead of time will prepare the child so they won’t be thrown off when the obstacle comes.

Be an example

One of the most effective ways to help your child set and keep goals is to lead by example. Kids do what parents do, not what they say. Be someone who follows through on everything and involves the family on where you are going and what you want to achieve. Once in a while, sit down the child and give them a story of that one goal you thought was impossible but you achieved it and give them the plan you used.

Set deadlines

As long as there is no time limit to doing something, procrastination tends to thrive. Human beings work best under pressure so it is necessary to put a time frame on everything you do. Once you have broken down the big goal into small tasks, put a deadline on every task and follow through to see that the task was done.

The secret to helping kids achieve their goals is to have them set realistic and specific goals that they are passionate about. You should also applaud and reward them as they get closer and closer to their goal and be an encouraging parent rather than a nagging one. Sometimes kids just want to feel supported and noticed and working on their goals with them is a great way to do that.

Road Trip With The Kids

Road trips are one of those fun activities that parents and children can really enjoy. With the right amount of planning, you can have a blast with your children and make incredible memories that will last.

Here are tips you can use to make sure your road trip is a roaring success:

Involve the kids

Don’t just plan the trip on your own and then spring it on the kid’s last minute. Most children, especially teenagers, hate surprises because they already have plans. Involve them in the decision-making process; brain-storm with them on the destination, best route to use, what time to start along with other ideas. Doing so gives the kids a sense of ownership.

Plan carefully

Spontaneity is great. However, the last thing you want is to get lost and have a boring trip in the name of spontaneity. Plan everything from the pit stops, hotels to lounge and everything you want to do before you leave. It is easy to follow a plan when you have one and not miss out on some great things.

Pack lots of food

Do not forget to pack a lot of foods and drinks. Hungry children are usually cranky individuals who are not co-operative and can make the trip a really miserable experience. Snacks keep the children busy and help take the edge off being on the road for hours on end. For drinks, opt for sippy cups and straw bottles instead of juice box because of the mess these make.

Entertainment

There is nothing worse than idle kids. Plan for ample entertainment to keep the kids busy throughout the trip and avoid bad behavior. Digital or phone games are great for older kids while younger children can carry crayons and coloring books and also magnet games. If your car has a screen, carry a few entertaining DVDs especially cartoons and kids shows. However, regulate the amount of entertainment to have some bonding time with the kids.

Be creative

A road trip is not about you driving while the kids play games at the back. It’s about having some great family time together. Get creative ideas on things to do together such as spotting landmarks, naming all the counties you see on on-coming vehicles and naming the capital cities of the world. Make sure you give each kid a travel journal and a pencil so they can write and capture memories throughout the trip and also buy cameras for them.

Pack well

There are certain essentials you must carry including a few blankets, pillows, sealable plastic bag, flashlight, jumper cables, jackets, first aid kit and wet wipes. Make sure you know where everything is and pack the one item that gives the baby comfort before sleeping.

Taking a road trip with the kids can be one of the most exciting things you will ever do as a family. It provides the kids the opportunity to be free and open because mom and dad are not tired from work and it can be a memorable time.

Toxic Toys

From the moment a mom is told she is pregnant, strict measures start coming into play. They stop drinking alcohol, avoid certain foods and even change their clothing to make themselves and baby safe and comfortable. These measures get even more intense after the baby is born when everything they use to eat is boiled and sanitized. Sadly, what some parents don’t know is that some of the toys they buy for their children contain high amounts of toxins. While boiling may kill most of the germs found in toys, it cannot get rid of the amounts of toxins found in some toys that cause adverse health issues to humans.

Chemicals found in toys

Phthalates: This is a chemical used to make plastic toys soft and chewable for the child and pets. Unfortunately, this chemical is highly toxic in large amounts and it is known to cause disorders like asthma, skeletal defects, and allergies. It also causes damage to the lungs, kidneys and male reproduction system. This chemical is so toxic that it was banned from being used in the United States and the European Union but, it is still being used in countries like China, Taiwan, Philippines, and Japan which make 80% of all toys found in the world.

Arsenic and lead: As children grow older, parents move from chewable toys and buy leather balls, ropes, and rubber toys to play with. In the production of these leather balls, a lethal chemical called arsenic is used to remove hair from the animal hides to make leather. Other chemicals used in this process include lead, sulfites, lime, bleach and other acids. Arsenic and lead are not only absorbed by ingestion but also through touching and smelling.

Paint: Have you ever seen those very colorful toys that just invite you to buy them? Well, don’t. Most of these toys come from China and they are painted to make them more attractive. When the baby puts the toy in their mouth, the paint comes out and they ingest it.

Dye: Most fluffy toys, tennis balls, and ropes are dyed so they can be colorful and attractive to the children and pets. Unfortunately, dye contains harmful chemicals and should not be ingested.

How to protect your pets and children from toxic toys

  • Buy US-made toys because they are likely to have fewer chemicals. The United States has many corporations and institutions in place to ensure all their toys are toxin-free.
  • Sniff the toys before buying. If they have a strong chemical smell, don’t buy them.
  • Avoid toys that are brightly colored or dyed.
  • Stay away from vinyl toys which are a soft plastic and ropes because they come apart easily and contain dye.
  • Don’t buy small toys that can be a choking hazard and always check the label for manufacturer’s statements.

With everything you have done to protect your child from harm, don’t let something as simple as a toy ruin all your effort. Do your due diligence when buying all toys and avoid hand me downs or toys that are several years old.
